Legal Assistant, Workers’ Compensation

Summary:
Assists legal teams with administrative duties including the gathering of medical records and invoices, scheduling appointments and depositions, scanning client documents, file preparation, and both verbal and written client communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
• Logs in medical records to client files including mail, medical records, medical bills, hearing notices, discovery.
• Schedules depositions, mediations, client appointments, referral lunches, client meetings
• Assembles the medical index and follows up on the acquisition of medical records.
• Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact, communicating case progress.
• Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding balance with attorney, clients, and providers.
• Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.
Other Responsibilities:
• Responding to and scanning all incoming mail documents.
• Prep files for depositions and mediations
• Confirm client appointments, depositions, and mediations.
• Takes new client intake calls (after 90 days on the job)
• Closes files and then strips down the files.
• Take a picture of the client for the case file.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with attention to detail.
• Possesses sound judgment and is decisive.
• Legal experience (preferred)

• Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in worker’s compensation and/or a law firm is a plus.
• Language Skills
Ability to write basic business correspondence and articulate emails.
• Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Internet, Spreadsheet, Outlook, Word, and Case Management software. Excellent typing skills required. Dictation transcription experience is a plus.
